Family Phonics Center

This is a great way to really learn vocabulary instead of just memorizing definitions. It allows children to actually apply the vocabulary word. 

 

Material: 

-Deck of playing cards

-List of vocabulary words

 

Directions: 

1. Place the deck of cards in a pile face down 

2. Each suit represents something different: 

     -Hearts: spell the word

     -Spades: define the word

     -Clubs: use the word in a sentance 

     -Diamonds: find a synonym of the word

3. You can play this until all of the vocabulary words have been used at least once or can continue to play the game as long as you want 

4. You can always find different things to do with each suit, you can include rhyming words, antonyms, etc.
